Donald Trump has hired former O.J. Simpson attorney Alan Dershowitz to serve on the defense team in his impeachment trial in the United States Senate.
Alan Dershowitz gained fame in 1995 for helping Simpson escape conviction on murder charges in the brutal stabbing deaths of his ex-wife and her friend Ron Goldman, in spite of overwhelming evidence that he had indeed committed the heinous crime.
In recent years, Dershowitz also became personally implicated in the Jeffery Epstein scandal after logs showed his name on the flight manifest of Epstein’s personal aircraft, the so-called “Lolita Express,” at least four times. He has also been connected by the claims of witnesses to the sex-trafficking ring run by Epstein, a man that Trump once called “a terrific guy.”
In 2008, Epstein, who frequented Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, pled guilty to sex trafficking a minor. In that case, Dershowitz secured a “non-prosecution agreement” for Epstein which limited his jail time to a mere 13 months and granted him a generous “work release.” The prosecutor who signed off on the short sentence, R. Alexander Acosta, would later become Labor Secretary in the Trump administration.
